Cannes underwater museum: a discovery for swimmers

South of Sainte-Marguerite, island discoveries continue beneath the surface. The underwater museum combines art and the marine landscape. Treat it as a planned swimming stop rather than an automatic stage of your route.

Six faces beneath the surface

The museum features six sculptures by Jason deCaires Taylor, inspired by faces of Cannes residents. They lie near Sainte-Marguerite’s southern shore, at depths of three to five metres. The City of Cannes describes the location and project on its official website.

Depth and distance give an initial guide, not a guarantee of visiting conditions. Sea state and visibility matter. Plan using the day’s information.

Kayak for the outing, swim for the visit

Explore the museum by swimming with a mask and snorkel. Your kayak brings you to a stop on the route agreed with the base; it does not replace the instructions for swimming or the sculpture area. Ask how to combine both parts.

You can enjoy the island stop without swimming to the works. Do not base your whole outing on visibility: time ashore and a kayak paddle can already make a lovely day.

Observe without touching or disturbing

Mask-and-snorkel rental costs €5 per person at the base. Mention your interest before departure and discuss your route with our team. Keep the swimming stop manageable and allow time to return.

Observe sculptures and marine life without touching, moving or collecting anything. Follow local instructions and avoid standing on the seabed. Enjoying the landscape also means leaving it undisturbed.
